Verse 5:15: Forgivness of sins

I think the question AWF posted is a very good one. Out of context I think the verse could be read as the elders granting forgiveness. But I think this would be a misreading. Instead, I think verse 16 puts verse 15 in the context of the power of faithful prayer—that is, praying with faith can heal us both physically and spiritually.

I think this is what AWF was originally suggesting with the question. I hope my rewording of the question didn't detract, I just tried to make the wording a bit less leading (even though I agree with where the question was leading)—feel free to improve my attempt at rewording the question, or to edit any of the thoughts above into exegesis.
