Verse 13:9

Thanks Jarom for the question and RobertC for the revision. I really don't understand verse 13:19 and would be very interested in hearing other people's thoughts on it. --Matthew Faulconer 16:38, 11 Oct 2005 (CEST)

Verses 15:6-10

I'm moving Nikki's question about 8-year old baptisms to Moro 8:11. --RobertC 12:36, 20 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Verses 16:1-5

Rob, I like your revision to the question. That's better than my revision. thanks, --Matthew Faulconer 19:15, 20 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Why did the Lord spare Samuel, but not Abinadi?

The exegesis about saving more lives begs the question of whether this is the main reason God spares the lives of some prophets and not others, or if it's more of a function of the prophet's faith or some other factor. --RobertC 21:56, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Verses 16:16-20

User:Jaromhansen posted the question:

Up to this point, were there no prophets that prophesied of Christ coming to the Americas, or were the people just ignorant of past prophecies?

However, there is no evidence from the text that the people were unaware of prophecies about Christ, just that they didn't believe them. In fact, v. 20 suggests that they were aware of these prophecies since they refer to them as "a wicked tradition, which has been handed down unto us by our fathers." Therefore, I removed the question. --RobertC 13:06, 15 Oct 2005 (UTC)

In verse 19 it mentions that Christ will only show himself unto those at Jerusalem. When Christ appears in the America's why does he only show himself unto one group of people there? Is there specific reasons as to why he shows himself unto certain peoples and not everyone?

In terms of background to this verse: Verse 19 and the surrounding verses are a record of the questions asked by those who were hardening their hearts (see verse 15). These people asked why Christ would only show himself in Jerusalem. See RobertC's response above as an explanation of their statemen.

The questions posted were interesting but might need rewording and a different location. I don't think we know that Christ only showed himself to one group of people in the Americas, although the Book of Mormon only has the account of his appearance to one group. The final verses in 3 Nephi 15 and the first verses in 3 Nephi 16 talk about Jesus' ministry among different groups of people that he will manifest himself to. MJ 14:21, 7 Nov 2005 (UTC)
