I suppose that this is part of the sort of "meta" discussion that this site was set up to avoid, but the issue of what is Church Doctrine, how it is discovered, and how it is used seem like issues that are related to scripture study and I would like to collect resources in one place, as this is a topic that interests me.

Papers

I have tried to crystalize me own thoughts on this in two papers. The first one addresses the question of how we know if something is "Church Doctrine" and the second one builds on the first paper by advancing arguments purporting to justify the authority of "Church Doctrine."

"Jurisprudence and the Problem of Church Doctrine" (a paper presented at the May, 2007 SMPT Conference at BYU)
"A Defense of the Authority of Church Doctrine" (forthcoming in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought)

Blog Posts

These posts don't necessarily deal directly with the issue of church doctrine per se, but they do deal with tertiary issues like the authority of church leaders.

"Prophetic Authority and the Law of Averages"
"Trusting GAs More than Ourselves"
"What is Church Doctrine? One Possible Theory..."
"Constituitive v. Regulative Rules in the Church"
