Naming conventions

Reasons for maintaining naming conventions

  • It greatly simplifies the process of finding the right scripture to comment on if all commentary pages about scriptures follow the same conventions.
  • The application that powers Feast upon the Word uses the commentary page title to determine how to show the scripture window embedded in each commentary page. Failing to correctly use the naming convention for commentary pages can result in no scripture window showing on that page or a scripture window showing with wrong or missing content.

Note: though the scripture window is embedded in the commentary pages that your browser requests from Feast upon the Word, the scriptures that display in this window is content that is not provided by Feast upon the Word. That content is fetched separately by your browser (assuming you are using a browser that supports iframes) from http://scriptures.lds.org.

Naming conventions for commentary pages

  1. Each commentary page starts with the abbreviation for the reference's book of scripture. Books of scripture can be abbreviated. This site uses the abbreviations used in the footnotes to edition of the Standard Works published by the Church. A complete list of all list of the books abbreviations can be found at: Standard LDS abbreviations.
